Beacon is a platform for connecting with people nearby—through your friends, shared circles, and real-world communities. We are committed to protecting your privacy and giving you control over your data.

This document outlines how we collect, use, and protect your information.

You Control Your Data

• We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

• We do not use third-party cookies, fingerprinting, or behavioral ad tracking.

• We do not run programmatic advertising.

• We collect only the data needed to operate the platform and improve your experience.

Messaging & Visibility

• You decide who can see your posts—friends, mutuals, or your broader city.

• We do not access private group chats unless content is flagged for violating our terms.

• Content in public or semi-public spaces (such as city rings) may be visible to a broader network, depending on your privacy settings.

• We don’t scan or monitor conversations unless a user reports an issue.

Location Data

• We collect your general location (e.g., city or metro area) to help surface relevant people, posts, and places near you.

• We do not share or display your precise location to other users unless your settings allow that user to see that information using geolocation.

• Location data is not stored or used beyond what’s necessary to support in-app features.

• We delete all location data after 15 days.

Age Requirements

• You must be 13 or older to use Beacon.

• If you are under the age of 18, your precise location cannot be shared.

• If you are under the age of 18, your post cannot be broadcast to people who are not approved friends.

• We require your birthdate to verify eligibility.

• Other users can see your age (not your full birthdate) unless you disable that in your profile settings.

Contacts

• Syncing your contacts is optional. It helps you find people you already know.

• If you sync, we store a hashed version of your contacts to let you know when they join.

• If you remove contact access, we delete that data.

• Your phone number is never displayed or shared with other users.

Business Accounts

• Beacon offers verified business accounts for organizations, venues, communities, creators, and service providers.

• Businesses may use Beacon to promote offerings, events, or availability through posts or group visibility—not through paid ads or algorithmic placements.

• We do not sell user data to businesses. Business accounts can only engage with users through the channels and privacy settings users have opted into.
